Personal

Jennifer has lived in Covington over 17 years with her husband Paul and children, Jack, Brady, Luke and Portia. Their family also includes two adorable dogs and a spunky cat. Jennifer was unanimously elected to City Council in April and elected by Covington residents later that year in November 2019.  She is the Associate Director of Project Management at a clinical laboratory where she has worked for nearly two decades. Jennifer enjoys exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her family. Favorites include family friendly hikes, investigating tide pools , trips to Covington library, meandering through the farmers market, and berry picking.   Rain, snow or shine, Jennifer's family loves hanging out at Covington Community Park.

Philosophy

Jennifer is passionate about community engagement and brings her integrity and critical thinking skills to Covington City Council. 

Jennifer is committed to

  • reducing traffic in our city

  • increasing our access to mental health services

  • supporting our police chief to mitigate property crime

  • economic development to support local business recovery

  • preserving our mature trees so that residents always see that tree line as we move about our community 

  • responsible fiscal management so that residents aren't picking up the tab for lost revenues due to the impacts of Covid-19

She looks forward to the continued opportunity to serve the City's residents.

Community Action

Jennifer is passionate about serving our community and was chosen as the City's Citizen of the Year in 2018 for her record of involvement in Covington. Acts of service include:

  • Served as Chair of Covington's Parks and Recreation Priority Advisory Committee

  • Served on the City's Arts Commission

  • Served on the City of Covington's Planning  Commission

  • Served as President and in other leadership positions for local PTA's as well as on the Board of Kent Area Council PTA

  • Awarded the Washington State PTA Golden Acorn

  • Awarded three times the Washington State PTA Outstanding Advocate

  • Coordinated and moderated a televised community legislative forum for the 33rd and 47th legislative districts

  • Testified in Olympia advocating for public education

  • Served on Kent School District's Citizens Budget Review Committee and Family Engagement Task Force

  • Successfully ran a campaign to save Cedar Valley Elementary, the school nestled within our Timberlane community, from closure

  • Served as Board Chair for the non-profit, Covington Co-Op Preschool, where she has been heavily involved for 15 years

  • Volunteers her time at Covington Days, the Mayor's Day of Concern for the Hungry, Student Art Month, and the after school art club at Cedar Valley

  • Volunteers her time and skills to support her children's sports groups, church activities and various community organizations and causes 

  • Serves on WRIA 9 (Water Resource Inventory Area 9) Management Committee

Education

Jennifer attended Crafton Hills Community College during the evenings, while working as a legal assistant, until transferring to the University of California - Santa Cruz where she graduated with Honors and with degrees in both Marine Biology and Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology.
